Orthodonty Treatment

Definition

  • Orthodontics (brace treatment) is a type of treatment that aims to restore crooked teeth as well as the relationship between lower and upper jaws.

Methods of application

  • Moving apparatuses:

Moving apparatuses are used to restore simple crowding and they can be removed if desired. In order to orientate jaw development, children in adolescence are also often given detachable apparatuses. Such apparatuses can simply eliminate the necessity of potential future jaw operations.

More complex crowdings, however, can be restored by applying detachable transparent plates with the help of such systems as invisalign.

    Fixed apparatuses:

This is a system that involves dental braces that are pasted on to the tooth surface and wires going through them. If the colour of these braces is the same as the tooth colour, aesthetic problems are reduced to minimum.

    Surgical method:

If orthodontic treatment is not a solution, particularly for individuals who have completed growth, the solution is jaw surgery.

Fields of application

    • Can be applied to children and individuals of all ages.
    • Can be used as a preventive treatment method for children if the problem is newly developing or has just developed. If treatment is given before the end of adolescence, potential jaw surgeries can be prevented.
    • Can be used for situations such as diastema and wapperjaw or situations where the teeth are crooked or snag or upper and lower teeth are not in contact etc.

Application

    • X-ray images are analysed and measurements are made in the first session.
    • If the orthodonty treatment involves detachable apparatuses, the prepared apparatus is attached to the teeth.
    • If the orthodonty treatment involves fixed apparatuses, braces and wires are attached to the teeth.
    • The orthodonty treatment is continued in regular examinations.

Duration

  • The duration of orthodontic treatment varies between 4 months to 4 years and takes approximately 2 years.
  • The patient is supposed to visit his/her dentist once every four weeks.

Technology

Detailed analysis of digital panoramic and cephalometric x-ray images, analysis of models, photography and archiving of the images.
