Dental Root Canal Treatment

Definition

  • Root canal treatment is comprised of three stages which are removal of the nerve tissue, also called the dental pulp, from the inner part of the tooth, extension and disinfection of the canals in tooth roots and filling of these canals.

Application areas of root canal treatment

    • In cases where the cavity has passed beyond the outer layers, tooth enamel and dentin, of the tooth and reached the dental pulp (nerve)
    • In cases where tooth nerves have been damaged due to trauma
    • In people with excessive heat-cold sensitivity or severe gingival diseases
    • For treatment of teeth that cause pain during mastication

Canal treatment process

    • The decayed parts of the tooth are cleared under local anaesthesia.
    • The nerve tissue is removed by using special tools, and root canals are washed and extended.
    • If there is too much inflammation in the tooth, certain medications are applied within the root and the tooth is filled with a temporary filling material. The medications are renewed at certain intervals.
    • If there is not too much inflammation, the canals extended in the first session are filled permanently with an appropriate canal filling.
    • Finally, the tooth is applied the last filling (If the remaining tooth tissue is thin, other processes such as crowning may be required in order to prevent fractures).

Duration

    • Because the tooth loses its vitality, it becomes less flexible and more fragile in time.
    • There may occur a slight discolouration over the long run. » This method may lead to aesthetic problems, particularly for the front teeth.

Technology

  • Apex locator: is a device that provides the most reliable and accurate results in canal-length measurements and has a direct effect on the success of treatment.
  • Phosphor plate: provides the most detailed x-ray images.
  • Rotary-reciprocal systems:
  • helps extend the roots with speed and comfort in a 3D environment.
  • Sonic wash: provides the root with maximum disinfection through vibrational motions.
  • The purpose of the root canal therapies that we implement in our clinic by using the best methods is to preserve the natural teeth as long as possible.
